A strong structure needs a sturdy foundtion

As the snow finally fades and April showers begin so does the tedious process of creating a sturdy foundation under the old portion of the 1920's era barn. The structure has been braced, blocked and gently lifted to allow access to the underside. The entire sill plate rotted off years ago and the main structural posts simply sat on the ground sinking deeper into the dirt. The structure has been lifted over a foot in an effort to level it.

Three 4 foot deep holes have been excavated under each post to allow for a concrete pier to be poured. After the piers are poured a heavy pressure treated beam will be attached  to create a pier and beam foundation.  Then the process will be repeated on the opposite side.
